Third Transnational Project Meeting in Wieliszew – Poland (20-23 September 2019)

Day 1

Day 1 of the Third Transnational Meeting of TREES in Wieliszew (PL) started with a meeting with the 6th grade classes of the Szkola Podstawowa im. Tadeusza Kosciuszki w Wieliszewie. The kids had the chance to meet with international delegates and speak about sport in different countries. Then, they engaged the delegates in a mixed soccer training.

Day 2

The morning of the second day was spent in Jablonna Park. The delegates had the chance to take part in the Saturday morning Park Run, which takes place every Saturday and that can be joined by everyone.Then they met with different organisations in the Science Festival, among which the Polish Arborists Federation and Jablonna`s Parks and naturalistic areas’ guards. In the afternoon the mapping of a track was made following the path of the Wieliszewski Crossing along the Narew River, 10km were mapped and cleaned by the delegates and local volunteers.

Day 3

The third day was dedicated to the Wieliszew Crossing, that followed the track mapped by the EMKA team and tested the previous day by the project participants.
Representatives of the participating organisation took part in the Crossing.
Carlos Siscar Pastor, representative of the Pego Municipality ranked first in his category!

Second Transnational Project Meeting in Ermesinde – Portugal – 26th-30th April 2019

Day 1

Day 1 of the TREES meeting in Portugal.
We are hosted by the Sojovem Association in Valongo.
The day was dedicated to present the TREES project to locals and to exchange best practices. A seminar about Trail Mapping by Università Agraria Vasanello and group working activities organised by Sojovem’s young volunteers also took place.

Day 2

Day 2 of the Second International Event in Valongo – Portugal. A new trail was mapped by the delegates using Wikiloc, Trailrunproject and ViewRanger apps, signals where pur along the road to sign the track for other users.
Many practicioners of sports in nature where encountered by the delegates along the road as the new track crossed pre-existing trails. Runners, cyclists, hikers and even bikers had the chance to get informed about TREES.
During the mapping some volunteers picked up the trash and garbage found along the track.

Day 3

Day 3 of the TREES project was dedicated to Trail running and hiking along the track mapped the day before. It was a non-competitive joint training to test the reliability of the mapping and to test different kind of sports in naturalistic areas.
In the evening the delegations had the chance to visit the Pauperio Biscuits Factory, one of the ancient bakeries of Valongo, that still produces artisanal biscuits and cakes.
Afterwards in the meeting room of the Museum of Valongo the Vice President of the city of Valongo, Ana Maria Martins Rodrigues, and the representatives of the sport sector met the delegates and shared practices and policies on naturalistic sports and management of woods and trails in Valongo area.

Short Description:

TREES – Training Routes Educate European Society is a project that addresses the topic “Promote education in and through sport with special focus on skills development” through the will to promote the social role of sports in nature and to foster the development of skills among volunteers on the management sports in naturalistic areas with respect for rules and traditions of those places.

Main objectives:

-rise awareness on unconventional and naturalistic sports such as trail running;

-increase the knowledge among amateurs and volunteers on the peculiar rules and methodologies of sports in nature, to improve safety, training and competition conditions;

-create networks for the internationalisation of competences, exchange of best practices and development of skills;

-promote voluntary activity in sport, social inclusion, equal opportunity sport for all and health enhancing activities;

-foster the social values of sports in n and their connection with traditions, history and culture;

-involve PA at local, regional and national level;

-contribute to the European Week of Sport 2019;

-produce tangible outputs: mapping of 5 trails for running and online publication with Guidelines for the mapping and management of trails.

These objectives will be reached through actions considered relevant to the topic selected:

-Awareness campaign on naturalistic sports and trail running;

-International Events for the mapping of new trails for trail running races;

-Open days on the protection and management of naturalistic areas and the importance of civic engagement and volunteering;

-Promotion of good governace and sport values among trail running teams;

-Training of athletes and volunteers on trail management and protection;

-Mapping of new trails in each involved Country;

-Guidelines for trail mapping.
